Federal Filing Date Extended (Tax Alert Update)

The due date for filing Federal income tax returns has been extended for all taxpayers. This change does not extend to individual states yet. Here's what you need to know.

On Saturday March 21, the Treasury Department and IRS extended the due date for filing Federal income tax returns for ALL taxpayers. The new due date is July 15, 2020. Previously, only the payment date had been extended.

Please note that as of the writing of this article, New York and New Jersey have not yet extended the date for filing or the due date for payment of taxes. The due date remains April 15, 2020.

While we do expect New York and New Jersey to extend the dates, we recommend that you contact your tax preparer and ask how you should proceed with filing your income taxes. If you prepare your taxes on your own, assume your filing date remains April 15 unless you hear otherwise, and file as soon as possible if you are expecting a refund.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as we receive them.
